Pedestrian SeriesMy recent work is that of a flaneur, wandering through cities both familiar
and unfamiliar, directing my gaze into the realities of others. Like a voyeur I study people, recording their actions
through the lens of my camera.
My interest in the formal aspects of painting and the works of genre and history painters of the past are what lead
me to record my images in traditional oil paints along with newer alkyd resins.
Working in photography and painting simultaneously ultimately led to
a major shift in my practice. It became only natural to merge the materials. By inserting a pigment print onto the painted
surface I create a picture in picture effect (PIP), suggesting a micro narrative.
The photographic print on a painted canvas suggests truthfulness,
problematizing concepts of realism and the accurate representation of the world.
